CMMPE was officially opened in 2003 by Lord Sainsbury of Turville. It was orginally set up as an 'embedded' research centre and now forms part of the new Electrical Engineering Division of the Department of Engineering, bringing together industrial partners and internationally leading academics. Its aim is to develop an environment that can sustain and nurture innovation through collaboration, leading the way in photonics and electronics research. CMMPE is based on the West Cambridge Site, and is one of three parallel photonics research groups.
