The CMMPE’s third research area is focussed on developing new materials to support the technology and application development programmes.
- Probably our biggest development area in materials is based around liquid crystals and, in particular, their ability to control the phase of light. Fundamental to holography, we are keen to develop new, fast, more efficient and more cost effective materials.
- We also have a number of plasmonics based interests, using plasmonic effects to produce similar effects to those formed by our liquid crystal devices.
- Located in the same facility as the Cambridge Graphene Centre, the, CMMPE has a strong interest in the photonic properties of graphene and carbon nanotubes.
