Biography

Ralf obtained an MSci in Physics at the University of Nottingham in 2008, after which he joined the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) as a Research Scientist. His work at NPL was aimed at maintaining and developing the UK’s national RF & microwave standards, with a focus on metrology for electromagnetic safety. In 2016 Ralf joined the Sensors CDT and, following successful completion of his MRes, studied for a PhD with the CMMPE group. Ralf’s work focuses on developing new holographic techniques for controling light propagation down hollow-core and liquid-core optical fibres. Some possible applications of interest for this include imaging through the fibre, spatially resolved chemical sensing within the fibre, and optical trapping at the tip of the fibre.
