Modern holographic techniques allow fine control over light coupling into an optical fibre, opening up the possibility of controlling the way light propagates through the fibre. This has allowed for the development of hair-fine endoscopes, novel telecommunications technologies and a new generation of distributed sensors. Current research in collaboration with the Cavendish Laboratory is aiming to combine cutting-edge holography with a range of fibre technologies in an effort to find new application areas.
