Labs
CMMPE has at its disposal a wide variety of experimental equipment and techniques with which to characterise liquid crystalline materials and their associated devices. These experiments allow for virtually all of the physical properties (i.e. elastic constants, viscosity coefficients, refractive indices, dielectric and magnetic anisotropies, absorption coefficients, absorption, fluorescence and Raman spectra) of liquid crystalline and other dielectric materials to be determined. The breadth of the techniques available allows any one substance to be fully characterised.
The CMMPE has over 10 independent laboratories catering to:
- Cell characterisation
- Optical polarising microscopy
- Electro-optic characterisation
- X-ray scattering
- Photon correlation spectroscopy
- Differential scanning calorimetry
- Analysis systems for determining dielectric properties
- Refractometry
- Interferometric techniques
- Micro-probe Raman spectrometry
- UV-VIS spectrometry
- Abbey reflectometry
