BOEING RFID The Group carries out research on optical fibre and wireless technology for The Boeing Company under the wider framework agreement with the University. Recent projects have included distributed antenna systems for the aircraft cabin where the size, weight and power requirements are of critical importance as well as the need to support future wireless standards within the ~30 year lifetime of the aircraft making radio over fibre ideal. Other work is carried out on passive UHF RFID, by combining low cost batteryless tags with a distributed antenna system, the accuracy of tag detection can be greatly enhanced. This has potential uses both within the operation of aircraft to track essential and safety critical objects and within the manufacturing plant. |
