AVAGO

The Fibre Optics Product Division (FOPD) of Avago Technologies is collaborating with the Centre for Photonics Systems (CPS). FOPD directly sponsors a few PhD students and a research assistant within the centre. The current focus of the FOPD directed research is the investigation of bandwidth efficient modulation schemes that might enable high data rate, single wavelength, low complexity, low power optical transceivers. It is believed that such schemes will become vital as the difficultly in manufacturing high data rate, directly modulated optical sources, high bandwidth optical receivers and the associated electronics increase. The bandwidth efficient modulation schemes might also find applications in very low bandwidth plastic optical fiber links for consumer applications. FOPD also provides guidance, equipment and prototype devices for various experiments. FOPD allows the sponsored students, and research assistant to devote some of their time to the broader mutually beneficial research interests of the CPS.
