Tongyun LI joined the Group in 2007 as a PhD student after receiving a 1st Class BEng degree in Electronics and Computer Engineering from the University of Aberdeen. His research topic was 'Digital radio over fibre (D-RoF) distributed antenna systems (DAS). Since 2012, he has been a research associate at the CPS group. He was involved in EPSRC funded DDAS, PULSE, COSPOS II, INTERNET and COALESCE projects, CAPE funded SWIFT and ROME projects as well as EU H2020 funded PICs4All project. His current research focuses on next-generation optical and wireless communication devices and infrastructures for cellular and IoT services.

Tongyun was a scholar of the Cambridge Overseas Trust (COT) and won several technology start-up awards. He is also a cofounder of two companies in the field of telecom and IoT.
