Noise Reduction

Airport noise limits are now often more stringent than national targets. Major airports are now deciding when and if a particular aircraft can fly. This is especially a problem with the development of the new Airbus A370, since larger aircraft generate more noise. The engines are a big source of noise. At the Whittle Laboratory we are looking at the design of the turbomachinery involved with the objective of decreasing the noise levels without sacrificing the performance.
