Inclusive Design

many products are designed to appeal to the younger generation, ignoring the lucrative older market sectorNew technology and products have the potential to improve quality of life. However, unless the technology is made available to everyone then it also has the opportunity to alienate. As many products are designed to appeal to the younger generation, the lucrative older market sector is being ignored and large sections of the population are being excluded.

By 2020, almost half the adult population in the UK will be over 50, with the over 80s being the most rapidly growing sector. In Asia, this trend is about to accelerate within a total population in excess of two billion.

The primary aim of this research is to provide reliable data and information for designers that will lead to products to enable independence at home and access to work for the whole population.
