Dear Colleague,
With this letter, we (the EUROPRACTICE Software Support Service) are sending you the EUROPRACTICE/Cadence 2002 release, as a software update under maintenance. Each EUROPRACTICE Package which can be purchased by a member institution, has components from several different Cadence releases so the name "2002" is not a Cadence name.
An initial distribution is being made to EUROPRACTICE/Cadence licensees according to their software holding at July 2002. The table below shows which physical deliverables will be shipped for each software holding
|

Media Contents
The LDV 3.4 media with the QSR1 patch contain the logic simulators (Verilog-XL, NC Verilog/VHDL), together with analysis tools for logic designers (e.g. HDL style, Code Coverage, Formal Checker).
The SPR 4.0 (Synthesis, Place and Route) media with the QSR2 patch contain the BuildGates family of logic synthesis tools and the new Physically Knowledgeable Synthesis capability (PKS).
The IC 4.46 media with the MSR6 patch contain the Design Framework II-based software (Composer, Analog Artist, Virtuoso layout and Diva verification).
The DSMSE 5.3 media with the QSR3 patch contain the Deep Submicron place and route tools (Silicon Ensemble and Gate Ensemble) and the Pearl Static Timing analyser.
The DSM DP 3.4D media contain the Design Planner software. This forms the floorplanning stage of the timing-driven flow for hierarchical, semi-custom designs. You do not need to install this package if your institution does not require this particular functionality.
The IC Craftsman 11.0 media provide Virtuoso Custom Placement and Routing functionality, together with top-level chip-assembly routing. You do not need to install this package if your institution does not require this particular functionality.
The AMS Designer 2.0 media with the ISR patch provides a mixed signal simulation environment supporting the Verilog-AMS language, integarted into the NC-simulator system.
The FE 2.1 media contain the Firsdt Encounter software for very large designs, too large to place and route in one piece. It allows these designs to be evaluated early in the design cycle with respect to designer's constraints and to be partitioned into pieces small enough for place and route.
The Assura 2.0 media with the ISR contain Cadence's new generation of IC physical verification tools. It should only be installed by DRACULA Package licensees.
The PSD 14.2 media contain PCB/MCM design tools from the Concept/Allegro family (Concept, Verilog, Logic/Analog/Mixed-Signal Workbench, Allegro, SigNoise and EMC Analyses). The media also contain the new Capture and PSpice tools, for Windows.
The SPW 4.8 media contain tools for algorithmic design of communications, multimedia and image- and signal-processing applications.
Note: When making a DRACULA-only installation, the licensed Europractice tools all come from the IC 4.46 media and there is no need to install from any other media sets..
When making an ASIC-only installation, the DSM SE, DSM DP, IC Craftsman, AMS Designer and FE media sets are not needed.
LDV 3.4 stream contains many important performance, capacity and usability enhancements. It also supports features from more modern languiage revisions (e.g. IEEE 1076.2-1996 and 1076.4-2000) than the previous Europractice release. It has a new waveform display tool and the Formal Model Check tool has been updated and integrated into the mainstream LDV family.
The IC 4.46 family of tools incorporates improvements to Spectre and SpectreRF, including baseband models for top-down design. It also provides design flows to AMS Designer asnd to Virtuoso Custom Placer and important enhancements for the layout editor and for Diva.
IC Craftsman 11.0 contains improved control of global routing, improved support for mixed signal routing, shielding and cross talk. It also has support for additional typed of routing rules.
AMS Designer 2.0 and FE 2.1 are completely new tools in this release.
The PSD 14.2 tools include, as part of the EUROPRACTICE/Cadence Systems Package: additional interactive layout editing features in Alleegro; integration of the Constraint Manager into Concept as well as Allegro; improved investigation of electrical performance and reliability issues (timing, signal integrity, power delivery, cross-talk and EMI) proior to manufacture through SPECTRAQuest; PSpice tools (Windows only). As part of the new PCB Studio Package, PSD 14.2 contains Capture-CIS, PSpice tools and an Allegro layout capability, for Windows only.
Assura 2.0 is for the first time being shipped for the HPPA platform.
No update for VCC 2.0 is being shipped with this release since this product is undergoing re-engineering by Cadence. Existing users will be able to continue using the release they already have.
The definitive list of modules in each of the EUROPRACTICE Packages in this release can be found on our Web-site, by starting at the home page at URL
http://www.te.rl.ac.uk/europractice/
and following the links to the relevant EUROPRACTICE/Cadence pages.
To be compatible with the largest number of tools across the IC, Systems and Alta flows, one of the following operating system revisions should be used:
Please note that some of the tools are now supported under Linux.
We would like to remind you that the conditions of the EUROPRACTICE Agreement, which your institution has signed, do not allow you to contact Cadence directly for support and do not currently include the right for individual institutions to have access to Cadence's Web-based support service, SourceLink.
Instead, all enquiries should be addressed us (the EUROPRACTICE Software Support Service) through one of the contact points given in the letterhead. We have access to Cadence's technical support and SourceLink on your behalf. Normally, we will obtain patches to fix the specific bugs which you have experienced rather than distributing additional QSRs which attempt to fix all possible problems.
Please see "Obtaining Supplementary Installation Information" for up-to-date guidance on software installation.
EUROPRACTICE/Cadence Technical Package Manager.
Yours faithfully,
(Signed)
Dr. J. A. G. Morris
