Abstract from covering letters from EUROPRACTICE_SSS

Dear Colleague,

EUROPRACTICE/Cadence Y2K Update for 1998/1999 Release

With this letter, we (the EUROPRACTICE Software Service) are sending you update material for the 1998/1999 EUROPRACTICE/Cadence release. Some users may still be using that release for reasons of compatibility with design kits or ongoing projects. By installing these updates, you should:

This shipment also contains a similar update for the 1999/2000 release to make available the new Signalscan waveform viewer and to fix Y2K problems remaining in that release. A separate letter describes that update.

The table below shows which physical deliverables to expect for each software holding

   IC Update Systems Update
ASIC Package Yes   -
Systems Package -   Yes
IC Package Yes   -
Combined IC & Systems Package Yes   Yes

Installation files, based in a similar way on software holdings, will be sent by e-mail   These will be posted on the web, accessible within cam.ac.uk.

One of each type of box has been shipped for the use of all participants at Cambridge.

The contents of each type of box will be as follows:

IC Update

Systems Update

IC 4.42/QSR6
Solaris 2.5.1
HP-UX 10.20
PE13.0/ISR
Solaris 2.5.1
HP-UX 10.20

Each update will contain software for all of the platforms listed above. If you do not currently use some of these platforms, please keep the media safely in case you need them in the future.

If you will need to use the logic simulators with the IC tools from the 1998/1999 release, you will need to install the update for LDV 2.2 with QSR1, supplied for the 1999/2000 release, and use the logic simulators from there. Those simulators use the new Signalscan waveform tool whereas the ones from the IC 4.42 stream expect to use Simvision/SimWave tool, which is no longer licensed.

Once shipment is under way, the EUROPRACTICE Software Service will apply these updates to its own installations and these will be the software revisions for which support will be provided.

Please see "Obtaining Supplementary Installation Information" for up-to-date guidance on software installation.

Yours faithfully,

(Signed) Dr. J. A. G. Morris EUROPRACTICE/Cadence Technical Package Manager.

Obtaining Support

We would like to remind you that the conditions of the EUROPRACTICE Agreement, which your institution has signed, do not allow you to contact Cadence directly for support and do not currently include the right for individual institutions to have access to Cadence's Web-based support service, SourceLink.

Instead, all enquiries should be addressed us (the EUROPRACTICE Software Support Service) through one of the contact points given in the letterhead. We have access to Cadence's technical support and SourceLink on your behalf. Normally, we will obtain patches to fix the specific bugs which you have experienced rather than distributing additional QSRs which attempt to fix all possible problems.

Please see "Obtaining Supplementary Installation Information" for up-to-date guidance on software installation.

EUROPRACTICE/Cadence Technical Package Manager.
