NT11 - Satellite Symposium

International Workshop on Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality of Graphene and Nanotubes (MSIGN11)

University of Cambridge, Cambridge, 15 – 16 July, 2011

Symposium Organized by:

Scope

This satellite symposium of the Nanotubes 2011 Conference is devoted to metrology, standardization and industrial quality of carbon nanotubes and graphene. Indeed, nanotube and graphene science is currently maturing into a technology for real world applications. Commercial adoption of a material requires a level of consistency and quality that can only be assured by internationally agreed upon standards of measurement. The research community also benefits from standard measurement practices and quality in the carbon nanotube/graphene supply system as it facilitates inter-laboratory comparisons of research results. Development of protocols for the definition of sample parameters like composition, purity, stability, homogeneity, dispersability, structural metrics are keys for both research and applications of nanotubes and graphene. The MSIGN11 workshop strives to bring together the international stakeholders in nanotube/graphene measurement science and standardization to build consensus on best measurement practices to assure consistency and quality in the field of carbon nanotubes and graphene.

Invited speakers

Format

The MSIGN11 workshop will be held as a two day satellite meeting to NT11: 12th International Conference on the Science and Applications of Nanotubes. The themes for this year's workshop are: chemical metrology of nanotubes and graphene; physical metrology of nanotubes and graphene; metrology of nanotube/graphene assemblies, composites and thin films; and nanotube/graphene standards development. The workshop will consist of both invited and contributed talks spanning these areas and will close with a round table discussion. A formal poster session will be associated with the MSIGN11 workshop. A strong effort has been made to ensure global representation among the speakers at MSIGN11. The organizers would like to extend an invitation to all NT11 conferees interested in nanotube and graphene metrology and standardization issues to join us for a lively discussion at MSIGN11.
