First Chair of Mechanical Sciences

In March 1934 the Professorship of ‘Mechanism and Applied Mechanics' was renamed that of Mechanical Sciences, a term already attached to the Tripos and used in the Charter of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Charles Edward Inglis was the first holder of this title.
