B. Melvill Jones, the first professor of Aeronautical Engineering at Cambridge completed a small wind tunnel in a wooden hangar used by the University Air Squadron, where he carried out a series of aerodynamic experiments on wing stall, streamlining and drag reduction.

As a result he presented the definitive paper on streamlining of aircraft in 1929, which shocked the designers of the day.
