As the presentation officers, you are responsible for organising
nine lectures during the Michaelmas and Lent term. The work involved ranges
from overall budget planning, to sorting out little things such as the
parking space. Sometimes it is a bit tricky to persuade the right kind of
people to come to talk about the right kind of stuff at the right kind of
time, these do take up us quite a bit of time. In return, you are given the
authority to buy your kind of favourite food and drink for the refreshment.
The main activities are as follows:
- Deciding on which subjects to arrange presentations and who to invite to
speak.
- Liaising with other committee members (mainly Visits) to ensure that
CUES events do not clash.
- Contacting the relevant potential speakers and arranging dates. (Important
that some work is done over the summer to prepare for Michaelmas!)
- Finding a venue for each presentation and getting it booked (other
committee members can usually help here).
- Finalising details with the speaker and ensuring any equipment needed (eg.
audio, projector) is available.
- Liaising with Publicity and Web officers to advertise events.
- Getting food and drink to be served after the presentation.
- Ensuring all arrangements are sorted out on the day. Looking after the
speaker before and after the presentation.
- Clearing up after presentation (or delegate this!).
- Working within the budget allocated for Presentations.
