PhotoBuilder
This concept of using the mathematics of linear perspective to create
three dimensional models from two dimensional scenes has been taken further
to automatically build three dimensional models of architectural scenes
from photographs. This can be accomplished using two or more arbitrary
photographs of a building from an uncalibrated camera.
For instance, this three dimensional model of Jesus College chapel in
Cambridge was built up from the two photographs shown. Free software,
known as Photobuilder, is freely available for download. Try it out on your own home or favourite building.

To view the models, you need a VRML plug-in for
your web browser, such as the InterVista
plug-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer
or Cosmo
Player.

It is hoped that this type of software will be of use to architects and
estate agents as well as custodians of important buildings.
