Dr Allan McRobie

'Bridges are wholesome, they provide connections,' is how Allan McRobie describes his fascination with the subject. He led a varied career before he started working with them, however. Allan's first degree was in Physics, but with a youthful passion for making the world a better place he immediately retrained, taking a Masters degree in Irrigation Engineering, hoping that one day he could help bring water to areas in desperate need. His initial job with a firm of civil engineers took him to Australia where he worked with teams of Aborigines on a huge irrigation project in the desert. 'Fun and photogenic, but not quite what I wanted'.
