Harry Ricardo
Another company was set up in 1915, called Engine Patents Ltd, and it was under the banner of this company that Ricardo designed and manufactured the engines for the Mk V tanks that made his name. These engines were used not only for tanks during the First World War, but also to provide power for workshops and hospitals. A total of well over 8000 of his tank engines were put into military service, making it the first British-designed automobile engine to be produced in large numbers.
